A Scot on Scotch on YouTube

The new YouTube whisky channel from A Scot on Scotch

A Scot on Scotch is a YouTube whisky channel from Neill Murphy, writer and founder of the Whisky Reviews blog. The channel is a companion to the blog and will cover various topics from across the full spectrum of the Scotch whisky world.

The name of the YouTube channel is inspired by the 1991 book, Scots on Scotch by Phillip “Pip” Hills, founder of the SMWS. In the book, Hills brings together several writers to discuss the relationship between Scottish whisky and Scottish culture and the place of the spirit in modern Scotland.

The purpose of the book struck a chord with me and summed up everything I wanted from my own YouTube whisky channel. Scotch whisky is a Scottish product by definition and while it’s great to see the esteem in which the product is held elsewhere, it can’t hurt to add a few more Scottish voices to the mix.

Scotch whisky sometimes feels like it’s undergoing an identity crisis. With excellent whisky being produced everywhere, perhaps it’s time to put the focus back on the thing that made the category what it is: Scotland.

The Scot on Scotch YouTube whisky channel will cover a wide variety of topics. I’ll use it to commentate on recent news and developments from around the world of whisky, to recommend affordable, quality whiskies or to discuss events I’ve attended. Maybe I’ll even have some interviews with interesting characters in the whisky scene. Please subscribe to be kept up to date and notified every time a new video goes live.
